The Cuthbert Point House (circa 1805), is located on the Beaufort River, across from the town of Beaufort, SC. The original house is a four room structure, raised off of the ground on brick and tabby columns. The two original chimneys are constructed using the same materials. Based on the type of nails in the Heart Pine floors and the original trim, it is believed that the house was built around 1805. The house was built by either Dr. James Cuthbert, or his son, James Hazzard Cuthbert I. The house is framed with Heart Pine beams, and fastened with mortise and tenon joints. An 1890 renovation saw the addition of the right third of the house, and the front porch being enlarged to its current dimensions. Major renovations occurred in the 1950’s, 1970’s and in 2014.
